清末民初，世道动乱。古老而腐朽的大清帝国轰然倒塌，满清最后一任皇帝溥仪（黄子华饰）以及所有子民臣属的人生发生了翻天覆地的变化。这位皇帝在风云变幻的当下，分别娶了婉容（蒋雯丽饰）和文绣（秦海璐饰）两个性格截然不同的女子作为她的皇后和妃子。直奉战争爆发，他和妻子离开了祖辈居住的皇宫，外向洋派的婉容向往自由的生活，溥仪则心存复辟梦想不惜和日本人合作，文绣倍感冷落渴望改变。溥仪成为第一位被法律“强迫”离婚的皇帝，他在日本人的操纵下建立了伪满洲国。生活中他与婉容互相伤害，经历着情感的裂变与折磨。 他是乱世造就的特殊公民，也注定走出一程充满血泪的辛酸旅途……。Two places are in focus in this soap.
